Delhi High Court issued notice to ED and sought reply on the petition filed by Arvind Kejriwal in Delhi Excise Policy case, Court ordered ED to file affidavit

The Delhi High Court has issued a notice to the ED and sought a reply on the petitions filed by former Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal. In these petitions, the lower court’s order to summon Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi Excise Policy case has been challenged.

Justice Ravinder Dudeja ordered the ED to file a reply on both the petitions filed by Arvind Kejriwal. The court said that the ED can file its preliminary objections in the affidavit. The court will hear the case next on September 10.

ED had summoned Kejriwal

In fact, the ED had summoned Arvind Kejriwal several times for questioning in the money laundering case related to the alleged scam in Delhi’s excise policy. But he did not appear before the ED, after which the ED filed a complaint against Kejriwal in the Rouse Avenue Court. On the complaint of ED, the Magistrate Court had issued 2 summons to Arvind Kejriwal.

In his petition, Arvind Kejriwal has challenged the summons of the Magistrate Court as well as the decision of the Sessions Court dated September 17, 2024, in which his challenge was rejected. During the hearing, advocate Zoheb Hussain, appearing for ED, raised preliminary objection to the maintainability of Arvind Kejriwal’s petition and said that a petition has already been dismissed on the same ground and the second revision petition cannot be considered.

Let us tell you that the ED, which is investigating the alleged irregularities, corruption and money laundering in the formulation of Delhi’s Excise Policy 2021-22, had summoned Arvind Kejriwal in the case. It is alleged that many leaders of Aam Aadmi Party, including Arvind Kejriwal, deliberately got the excise policy changed in exchange for bribes from the liquor lobby.

Both CBI-ED are investigating

Both CBI and ED investigating agencies are investigating this matter. The investigating agencies allege that the money raised from this exercise was used by the Aam Aadmi Party to contest the Goa Assembly elections. For not participating in the investigation, Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED from his house on 21 March and later by the CBI in June from judicial custody. However, later on 12 July, the Supreme Court granted bail in the ED case and on 13 September in the CBI case.
