Delhi Metro’s Blue Line gets carbon-free certification

A news related to Delhi Metro has come to light. According to information received from officials, Delhi Metro’s Blue Line has received a certificate of being carbon free. This line connects Yamuna Bank to Vaishali in Ghaziabad. Officials said that this achievement of the Blue Line underlines the commitment of DMRC i.e. Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to deal with carbon emissions and climate change.

‘DMRC’s commitment is not limited to just getting the certificate’

Officials said that in line with the government’s aim to reach net zero emissions by 2070, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation is making significant progress towards carbon neutrality by integrating advanced environmental practices. He said that DMRC’s commitment is not limited to just getting the certificate. Its aim is to set a standard in environmentally friendly operations. Along with this, other urban transportation systems are also to be inspired to adopt similar sustainable practices.

What has to be done for carbon neutrality?

Measure your carbon footprint/carbon emissions – Know how much and what you need to reduce and offset.
Reduce your emissions – Implement an Emissions Management Plan (EMP).
Offset emissions you cannot reduce – Counteract carbon dioxide emissions with an equivalent reduction of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere through fully verified offset projects.
Information for the above three points has been taken from the website of National Carbon Management Association, India.
