Delhi News: Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Wednesday raised serious questions on the functioning of banks in Parliament. He said that government banks are losing the trust of the common people. The Aam Aadmi Party MP surrounded the government over the poor customer service of banks, limited banking facilities in rural areas and increasing cyber fraud. Raising questions on the hidden charges being levied by the banks, he said that the hard-earned money of the common people is being deducted without giving information. He said, “Customers are not informed in advance about many charges like minimum balance charge, ATM transaction fee, SMS alert fee and statement charge.”

Raghav Chadha asked the government on what basis the banks are deducting money from the account without the consent of the customers? Expressing concern over the increasing incidents of cyber fraud related to banks, he said why the maximum number of fraud cases are being registered in public sector banks? Raghav Chadha asked, “How do our phone numbers and emails reach marketing companies? Are banks’ data being leaked?” He said that keeping the personal information of customers safe is the biggest responsibility of the banks, but every day thousands of people are falling prey to cyber fraud.

‘The technology of banks is still old’

The AAP MP said, “Today we can stand on the roadside and buy Golgappas from UPI, but the technology of government banks is still stuck in the 90s.” He said that due to the sluggish technology of government banks and backwardness in digital banking, people are now turning to private banks. There is a dire need to modernize digital services in government banks. Raghav Chadha alleged that government banks are forcibly selling insurance and investment schemes to customers to meet their targets.

Raghav Chadha raised questions in Parliament

He said that bank officials are misleading customers and selling such products which they do not need. The AAP MP asked the government when will the functioning of government banks improve? He said that if concrete steps are not taken soon, the public’s trust will be completely lost. He demanded from the government that hidden charges should be abolished. Stringent laws should be made to prevent cyber fraud and government banks should be made digital age friendly. He demanded immediate action from the government to improve the condition of banks. The AAP MP gave the slogan “Banks are for the public, not the public for the banks.”
