Delhi: The High Court has taken a tough stand on the arrest of a Delhi businessman in UP. The court has directed the UP DGP to file an investigation report. Satinder Singh Bhasin was picked up from Connaught Place without informing the Delhi Police. The High Court has sought a reply from UP and Delhi Police, calling it a violation of procedure. The bench of Justice Pratibha M Singh and Justice Rajneesh Kumar Gupta clearly said that it is mandatory to follow the prescribed protocol in inter-state arrest.
In the hearing on March 20, the double bench directed the UP Police lawyer to submit a status report. Satinder Singh Bhasin had filed a petition in the court. The petitioner said that on February 18, the UP Police took him from Connaught Place to an unknown place without legal process. On the next date, February 19, the UP court released him. The petitioner alleges that there was also assault during the arrest. The court had also directed the Greater Noida Police Commissioner to submit a report.

Petitioner’s lawyer Vishal Gosain appeared in the court. He said that summons were not sent before the arrest. The UP Police did not even call the petitioner to record his statement. The court ordered to preserve the CCTV footage of the incident. Commenting, the court said that the orders cannot be misused or misinterpreted.
Report sought from DGP and Greater Noida Police Commissioner
The court clarified that the purpose of the habeas corpus petition is to ensure protection of the petitioner apart from enmity. The UP Police lawyer told the court that Satinder Singh Bhasin is wanted in the theft case. Investigation is going on in Gautam Buddha Nagar. Now the court has ordered the DGP of UP Police and Greater Noida Police Commissioner to submit a detailed report before the next hearing.
