Delhi: Politics has intensified over the delivery of a woman in torchlight and the death of a newborn due to lack of electricity backup in Kasturba Hospital of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). BJP and Congress have opened a front against the AAP government. Demanding compensation for the victim’s family, action has been demanded against the culprits. BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor has written a letter to Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena demanding an inquiry into the incident.
The BJP leader said that Asia’s largest maternity hospital is going through a period of misery today. For ten years, the Arvind Kejriwal government has not been giving funds for maintenance. The wards and hostels of the hospital are all in a dilapidated condition.
Delhi Congress President Devendra Yadav has said that the delivery in torchlight and the death of the newborn has exposed the health system of the AAP government. Yadav alleged that the newborn died due to lack of electricity in Kasturba Hospital. He said that the delivery of the pregnant woman was done in the light of a torch.
BJP and Congress together
The family is completely shocked by the death of the newborn. The Congress President held the Mayor and Health Minister Saurabh Bhardwaj responsible for the death of the newborn in the Municipal Hospital. He said that the ground condition of the government which makes big claims has become pathetic. Taking responsibility for the death of the newborn, the Health Minister of Delhi should publicly announce compensation to the family. Mayor Dr. Shaili Oberoi has ordered the Municipal Corporation Commissioner to investigate the incident.
Attack on AAP government
In a letter written to the MCD Commissioner, he said, “Media reports have revealed that on August 22, the newborn died due to lack of power backup in Kasturba Gandhi Hospital. You should investigate the matter seriously and find out the culprits. Strict action will be taken against the guilty officials.” BJP leader Praveen Shankar Kapoor said that the Medical Superintendent of the hospital issued a letter and gave permission to cut off the electricity for repairs from 1 to 4 pm without making any alternative arrangement. The hospital administration did not make alternative arrangements even for ventilators and operation theaters. Therefore, a child on ventilator died. Two deliveries took place in candlelight. He has demanded an inquiry from the Lieutenant Governor, calling it administrative negligence.
