Verma told reporters, “Steps have been taken by various departments to increase the water-carrying capacity of the river in the last six months. Currently the situation is under control and even if the water level rises by one or two meters more, water will not come on the roads of Delhi like in 2023.”

What did Pravesh Verma say? At 8 am on Wednesday, the water level of the Yamuna river at the Old Railway Bridge (ORB) was recorded at 206.83 meters, which is above the exit mark of 206 meters. Due to the rising water level, the district administration is shifting people living in low-lying areas to safer places and the ORB has been closed for traffic. The minister said, “The water of Yamuna river has not entered any house built in the authorized area. Flood water has entered only those houses which were built in the flood affected area despite earlier warnings. Our rescue teams are working. Even if the water level reaches 209 meters, flood water will not enter any house built in the authorized area. We hope that the water level will start decreasing by evening.”

Monitoring is being done on all three barrages

As per the forecast, the water level may rise further.
