The Directorate General of Civil Aviation i.e. DGCA has imposed a fine on Air India. The regulator has imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India for violating safety standards in flights operating on some long routes. According to the statement issued on Wednesday, the regulator conducted a detailed investigation after receiving a voluntary safety report from an airline employee. It alleged security violations in flights operated by Air India on some important long-haul routes.

DGCA said that since the investigation has prima facie revealed non-compliance by the airline. After this a show cause notice was issued to Air India. The safety report pertains to leased aircraft operated by Air India. DGCA said in the statement, “Since the operation of the leased aircraft was not in accordance with the regulatory/OEM performance limits, DGCA took enforcement action and imposed a penalty of Rs 1.10 crore on Air India. A pilot who was the commander of Air India’s B777 had complained about this on October 29 last year. DGCA said that an extensive investigation into the complaint found that the airline had not followed the rules.
Indigo was also fined
Some time ago, DGCA had also imposed a fine on the country’s largest airline IndiGo. A huge fine of Rs 1.20 crore was imposed on DGCA. A video from Mumbai airport had gone viral on social media, in which passengers were seen eating food while sitting close to the IndiGo plane. Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia had reacted strongly to this and said that such behavior cannot be tolerated. Along with IndiGo, a fine of Rs 90 lakh was also imposed on Mumbai Airport.
