All these questions were asked to the Ministry of Road Transport in the Lok Sabha, the answer to which has now come out. The answer given by the Ministry of Road and Transport is really worrying.
The central government told on the basis of the data of the last five years that how many people have died in road accidents every year. Along with this, it was also informed that people of which age group are becoming the victims of accidents the most due to potholes on the road. Giving information in a systematic manner from the ministry, it was told that in the year 2018, 1,57,593 people died in road accidents, while in the year 2019, 1,58,984 people lost their lives in road accidents.
The ministry said that even during the year 2020, which was the year of Corona, 1,38,383 people lost their lives in road accidents across the country, while in the year 2021, 1,53,972 people lost their lives in road accidents. In the year 2022 also, about 15,000 more people died as compared to last year. That is, in the year 2022, 1,68,491 people lost their lives in road accidents.
Along with this, on the basis of the data of the year 2021-22, the Ministry of Road Transport also told that which age group of people dies the most in road accidents.
According to the data given by the Ministry of Road Transport-
In the year 2021, 7,764 people under the age of 18 died, while in the year 2022, 9528 people lost their lives, while in the age group of 18 to 25, 31,750 people lost their lives in 2021 and 33,350 people died in the year 2022. In the age group of 25 to 35, 39,646 people died in 2021, while in the year 2022, 42,671 people lost their lives. If we talk about people between the age of 35 to 45, then in the year 2021, 32,741 people died and in 2022, 36,051 people lost their lives. There were 26,085 deaths of people between the ages of 45 and 60 in the year 2021, while 28,407 people died in 2022. In 2021, 11,739 people above the age of 60 died, while in the year 2022, 13,636 people died.
Most of the people who lost their lives are 25-35 year olds
The most notable thing in these figures is that the people who lose their lives the most in road accidents are between 25 and 35 years old, because the figures for 2 years have come out. They are telling that compared to people of other ages, more people between the ages of 25 and 35 are dying in road accidents.
According to the data of the Ministry of Road Transport, while 3,564 people died in the year 2020 due to potholes on the roads, in the year 2021, potholes were responsible for the death of 3,625 people, while in the year 2022, 4,446 people died due to potholes on the roads. This figure also shows that people are dying due to potholes on the roads year after year, but those figures are not decreasing. On the contrary, the figure is increasing with each passing year, which also reflects the careless attitude of the current governments, administration and local departments.
