Draupadi Murmu: Indian President is on a visit to Mauritius. Meanwhile, Draupadi Murmu visited the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Mauritius on Tuesday, on the anniversary of the historic Dandi March. Here he paid tribute to the Father of the Nation. During this, Gandhi’s universal ideals were remembered in a civic felicitation ceremony organized at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute in Moka, Mauritius. At the ceremony, the President thanked the Indian diaspora in Mauritius for preserving their cultural heritage and passing it on to future generations.
President Murmu traveled by metro
Actually, today is the national day of Mauritius. President Murmu has arrived as the chief guest. He is on a three-day visit to Mauritius. He also took a short metro journey to Mahatma Gandhi Metro station in Mauritius. In another post, the Ministry of External Affairs said, on the historic day of the beginning of Mahatma Gandhi’s Dandi March, President Murmu took a short journey in the metro and reached Mahatma Gandhi Metro Station in Mauritius.
It further said, the flagship metro project with the help of India has had a transformative impact on the lives of the people of Mauritius. In 2019, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a metro express service and a hospital in Mauritius. During this, Prime Minister Pravind Jagannath was also present through video conferencing. In his address, PM Modi described these projects as a symbol of India’s strong commitment to the development of the island nation.
Draupadi Murmu made a big announcement in Mauritius regarding OCI card.
President Draupadi Murmu on March 11 has said to allow a special provision to grant Overseas Citizenship of India i.e. OCI card to the 7th generation persons of Indian origin in Mauritius. In Mauritius, President Draupadi Murmu said that ‘my government has recently approved a proposal. Under this special provision, 7th generation people of Indian origin living in Mauritius will also be eligible for Overseas Citizen of India Card (OCI Card). It is clear from this statement of President Murmu that with this, the residents of Indian origin living in Mauritius will be able to become foreign citizens of India and will be able to reconnect with the land of their ancestors i.e. their ‘roots’.
