India is constantly making progress in the field of defense with time. The Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) successfully tested its long-range hypersonic missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha on 16 November 2024. Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has congratulated DRDO, armed forces and industry for the successful flight test of the country’s first long-range hypersonic mission.
On this occasion, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh posted on social media handle X and congratulated. He said, India has achieved a major achievement by successfully flight testing a long-range hypersonic missile from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha. This is a historic moment. He further said, this achievement has put our country at par with countries that have such important and advanced military technology.
Why has the missile been designed
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh has described this achievement as historic. This hypersonic missile has been designed to carry various payloads over a distance of more than 1500 km for all services of the Indian Armed Forces.
The missile was tracked by various range systems deployed in multiple domains. Flight data received from down-range ship stations confirmed successful terminal maneuvers and impact with a high degree of accuracy.
Indigenously developed
This missile has been indigenously developed by the laboratories of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex, Hyderabad along with various other DRDO laboratories and industry partners. The flight test has been prepared in the presence of senior scientists of DRDO and the armed forces.
