The DRDO team has submitted its official report to the competent authority in the matter of seizure of suspicious items being sent from China for possible use in Pakistan’s nuclear weapons program.
Government sources said the report by DRDO experts said the large-sized CNC machines were dual-use equipment and could be used for the military.
In fact, a ship going from China to Karachi was stopped by Indian agencies on the suspicion that dual-use material for the nuclear program was being sent in it. It could have been used for Pakistan’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs.
Pakistan had expressed objection to India’s action
At the same time, Pakistan has expressed objection to the ship being stopped by Indian security agencies. Pakistan said it was a simple case of import of lathe machine by a commercial entity. Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson, while answering the questions of journalists, said, Indian media has misrepresented the facts in reporting this matter. This is a simple case of import of lathe machine by a commercial entity based in Karachi. This commercial unit supplies components to the automobile industry in Pakistan.
The Pakistani Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that the specifications of the device clearly indicate its purely commercial use. The transactions were being done through transparent banking channels with all relevant documents.
Commercial ship was stopped on 23 January
It is noteworthy that on January 23, Indian Customs officials stopped the Karachi-bound commercial ship ‘CMA CGM Attila’ and inspected the consignment loaded in the ship. The cargo also included a Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine manufactured by an Italian company. North Korea has used CNC machines in its nuclear program.
