Dubai/Kuwait City: Kuwaiti authorities have identified the bodies of 45 Indians and three Filipinos who lost their lives in a fire incident in a building housing foreign workers. A top official has given this information. Kuwait has assured full cooperation in conducting a quick investigation of the incident and sending the bodies of the deceased. At least 49 foreign workers were killed and 50 others were injured in a fire in a seven-storey building in the southern city of Mangaf on Wednesday. 196 migrant workers were living in this building.

According to the news of the English daily newspaper ‘Arab Times’, First Deputy Prime Minister, Home Minister and Defense Minister Sheikh Fahad Al-Yousuf Al-Sabah said that the authorities have identified 48 bodies, including 45 Indians and three Filipino citizens. The First Deputy Prime Minister said that efforts are still on to identify the remaining one body. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s fire force has said that the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit.
Minister of State Kirti Vardhan Singh is in Kuwait
Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh, who arrived in Kuwait to take stock of the assistance provided to the Indians injured in the incident and to ensure the speedy return of the bodies of the deceased, has met Kuwait’s Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya. Singh also met some Indians injured in the incident and assured them of all possible assistance from the Government of India. He met First Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad, who expressed condolences on behalf of the Emir and directed to ensure all necessary assistance and support.
Series of arrests started
First Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Fahad said that Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah has issued instructions to distribute financial assistance to the families of the deceased, although he did not mention the amount of compensation. Meanwhile, a Kuwaiti citizen and several foreigners have been arrested on charges of murder and causing injury due to negligence in safety measures after the incident. Sheikh Fahad warned that any violation related to building construction would be acted upon without any prior warning. The owner of the affected building will be kept in custody till the investigation is completed.

After this it will come to Delhi because some people from North Indian states are also included among those who died in this accident.
PM Modi expressed grief over the accident
PM Modi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar expressed deep grief over the Kuwait accident. The Tamil Nadu and Kerala governments have announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of the deceased. PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund to the families of the deceased and assured all possible help from the government.

Fire caused by electric short circuit
In fact, most of the laborers lived in the building in which the arson incident took place. The cause of the fire in the building was an electric short circuit. The accident happened at 4:30 am on Wednesday. A huge fire broke out in the kitchen of the labor camp. Seeing the fire, some people started jumping out of the apartment. Due to this, many people died while some died due to burns and inhaling smoke.
