Several earthquakes have been felt in Russia over the past month, creating an atmosphere of fear among the people there. On Friday, the Russian Kamchatka Peninsula was once again shaken by an earthquake. The tremors were felt at 12:28 am and 12:38 am Indian time. The two tremors shook the ground within a span of 20 minutes.
The first earthquake in Kamchatka, Russia, measured 7.8 on the Richter scale, while the second quake measured 6. Following the earthquake, high waves surged and a tsunami alert was issued. However, no reports of damage have been reported so far.
The magnitude of the earthquake was 7.8.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) reports that the epicenter of the earthquake was approximately 85 kilometers below the surface near the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula. The epicenter of the second quake was 30 kilometers below the surface. According to Russia’s State Geophysical Service, the earthquake had a magnitude of 7.8 and was followed by about five aftershocks. Immediately following the tremor, the US Weather Service issued a tsunami alert, urging people to stay away from the coastline.
Third Earthquake in a Week
Several earthquakes have been felt in Kamchatka, Russia, within the past month. This is the third time in the past week that the land in Kamchatka has been shaken by an earthquake. Two tremors were felt here on Friday night.
Previously, on July 29, 2025, a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake struck near the Kamchatka coast. It was considered one of the largest earthquakes in the past decade. Following this earthquake, a state of alert was issued in several countries. High waves began to rise in the sea. However, following the weather department’s alert, people were evacuated to safety.
