The announcement of the Delhi Assembly elections will be made today at 2 pm. The Election Commission will announce the dates of the elections at Vigyan Bhavan in Delhi. The term of the 70-member Delhi Assembly is going to end on February 23. In 2020, the elections were announced on January 6. Voting took place on February 8 and the counting of votes was done on February 11.

The Delhi elections are expected to be held in a single phase. The elections may possibly be held around the second week of February. This may be the last election under the supervision of Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar. He is going to retire on February 18.

After the announcement of the elections, the model code of conduct will come into force in Delhi. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is eyeing a hat-trick. It has won the 2015 and 2020 elections with 67 and 62 seats. At the same time, the BJP could not win even 10 in the last two assemblies. The contest in Delhi is triangular. There is a competition between AAP, BJP and Congress. Congress and AAP fought the Lok Sabha elections together, but both have announced to fight the assembly elections separately.

Kejriwal’s credibility at stake

Former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is contesting from New Delhi seat this time too. He is pitted against Congress’ Sandeep Dixit and BJP’s Pravesh Verma. Kejriwal has been reaching Delhi Assembly from this seat. New Delhi seat is a VIP seat. BJP and Congress have fielded their star leaders here. In such a situation, the fight has become exciting.

On the other hand, Chief Minister Atishi is contesting from Kalkaji seat. She is pitted against Congress’ Alka Lamba and former BJP MP from South Delhi Ramesh Bidhuri.
