The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Monday summoned real estate developer Hiranandani Group promoters Niranjan Hiranandani and his Dubai-based son Darshan Hiranandani for questioning in a foreign exchange violation case. News agency PTI, citing sources, said that the father and son have been asked to appear at the central agency’s office in Mumbai. The investigating agency on Thursday had searched four premises linked to Hiranandani Group and its group entities under Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) provisions.

Inquiry will be held in Mumbai
Sources said Niranjan and Darshan Hiranandani have been asked to appear at the central agency’s Mumbai office, but they can choose to give their initial response through an authorized representative. Darshan Hiranandani has been living in Dubai for the last several years. The Enforcement Directorate had last week raided around four premises of real estate group Hiranandani located in and around Mumbai, in connection with its investigation into allegations of FEMA violations.

ED is investigating this matter
Apart from some foreign transactions, the agency is also said to be probing beneficiaries of a British Virgin Islands (BVI)-based trust allegedly linked to the promoters of Hiranandani Group. The group has said it will cooperate with the federal agency in this FEMA investigation. Official sources said the investigation has no connection with another FEMA-related case against Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Mahua Moitra. Moitra was recently expelled from the Lok Sabha.

BJP MP had made allegations

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Nishikant Dubey had accused Moitra of asking questions in the Lok Sabha targeting the Adani Group and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in return for gifts received from businessman Darshan Hiranandani. Dubey had also accused Moitra of compromising national security for financial gain. Moitra has denied these allegations and claimed that she is being targeted for asking questions on Adani Group deals.
