ED: Trouble increased for former Mumbai NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede, ED registered a case against IRS officer Sameer Wankhede under PMLA Act.

The troubles of former zonal director of Mumbai Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Sameer Wankhede are increasing. Now the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team seems to be in a mood to take action against them. It is being said that the central agency may call him for questioning soon. ED has registered a case of money laundering against IRS officer Sameer Wankhede on the basis of corruption FIR lodged by CBI.

In fact, after the investigation into the seizure of drugs on the Cordelia cruise ship in October 2021, Wankhede had come under the target of CBI and the matter of investigation had gained momentum. Bollywood’s ‘Badshah’ Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan and others were arrested in the alleged drugs seizure case. Apart from Sameer Wankhede, ED has summoned three officers of Narcotics Control Bureau next week, which also includes Vigilance Superintendent Kapil. These officers will be interrogated in the Mumbai office. Along with this, ED has also interrogated some people.

Meanwhile, Wankhede has approached the Bombay High Court seeking quashing of the case and protection from any action. Wankhede has filed a petition in the High Court regarding ED’s action, saying that this sudden action of ED on the basis of CBI FIR and ECIR registered in 2023 smacks of vengeance and malice.

NCB had given clean chit to Aryan Khan
Following the 2021 Cordelia Cruise drug scandal and corruption allegations, NCB had formed a Special Investigation Team (SET), in which lapses were found by the Wankhede-led team. The CBI had registered a case of corruption and extortion against Wankhede and others on the basis of the SET report. After this, NCB gave clean chit to actor Shahrukh Khan’s son Aryan and five others and acquitted them in the case.

Citing the report, NCB Vigilance Superintendent Kapil had written a letter to CBI requesting to register a case of corruption against Wankhede, his junior superintendent Vishwa Vijay Singh and intelligence officer Ashish Ranjan and others.

Allegations of demanding bribe of Rs 25 crore
In May 2023, the CBI had filed an FIR against Sameer Wankhede and four others for allegedly demanding a bribe of Rs 25 crore in exchange for implicating Aryan Khan in a drugs case. The allegation was that Rs 50 lakh was taken as the first installment. At that time CBI had raided 29 places. Sameer Wankhede had approached the High Court seeking cancellation of the FIR and interim protection from any punitive action.
