Voting is being conducted on Monday under tight security at the polling stations where violence took place in Manipur during the first phase of Lok Sabha elections. Voters are standing in queues at polling stations, waiting for their turn. The Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur says that re-polling is taking place at 11 polling stations in the state. This decision has been taken after an instruction from the Election Commission. There was 69.18 percent voting in Manipur on April 19.
The CEO says that voting has started at 7 am and will be conducted till 5 pm. The polling stations where re-voting is taking place include Moirangkampu Sajeb Higher Primary School and S. Voting is taking place at Ibobi Primary School (East Wing), four polling stations in Chhetrigao, one in Thongju, three in Uripok and one in Konthoujam. Violence was seen at these polling stations on 19 April. Some miscreants had opened fire and vandalized the EVMs.
The person was injured in the firing
In this incident, one person was reported injured after the firing. There was a clash at a polling booth in Moirangkampu Sazeb Awang Likai of Imphal. Block level officer of Moirangkampu Sajeb Surbala Devi said that suddenly two people came here and asked about the polling agents of Congress and BJP. He took the Congress agent outside by holding his hand. After this, two people sitting in the car opened fire, in which a youth was injured.
The second phase will be held in Manipur on 26th April.
Voting for the Lok Sabha has taken place in all 32 assembly constituencies of Inner Manipur parliamentary constituency and 15 assembly constituencies of Outer Manipur (ST) parliamentary constituency. Voting for the remaining 13 areas of Outer Manipur will be held in the second phase on April 26. Lok Sabha elections will be held in the country in seven phases from April 19 to June 1 to elect 543 members of the 18th Lok Sabha. The second phase of voting will be held on 26th April and voting for the remaining phases will be held on 7th May, 13th May, 20th May, 25th May and 1st June respectively. After this, the results of Lok Sabha elections will come on June 4.
