Farmer leaders spoke to the media about their upcoming strategy at Shambhu border. Jaswinder Singh Longowal, President of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Azad), said that the Rail Roko movement in Punjab had a good effect. He further said that there is an atmosphere of concern in the whole country about Dallewal’s health. Apart from this, the United Kisan Morcha and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have announced to intensify the movement. A Punjab bandh has been called on December 30 and the farmers have also appealed to the people of Punjab to make it successful.
Farmer leaders have taken this decision in protest against the policies of the central government. Farmer leader Tejveer Singh said that they are fully prepared to make the Punjab bandh of December 30 a success. Apart from this, farmer leaders opposed the draft of the National Agricultural Policy of the Central Government, which mentions MSP (Minimum Support Price), but it is not balanced with the policies. At the same time, in the case of Ranjodh Singh, the farmers paid tribute to him and said that the movement will become even stronger after his sacrifice.
Refusal to talk to Supreme Court committee
The Punjab government on Wednesday informed the Supreme Court that several meetings were held with farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal and other farmers sitting on a hunger strike at the Khanauri border, but they are refusing to negotiate with the committee constituted by the Supreme Court. Punjab Advocate General Gurminder Singh gave this information to a bench of Justice Suryakant and Justice Ujjal Bhuiyan. He said that the committee had invited the farmers for talks on December 17, but the farmer leaders did not hold any talks with the committee.
The Supreme Court took cognizance of Dallewal’s health condition
The Advocate General also told the Supreme Court that the state government is engaged in efforts to persuade the farmers every day, but the talks are not progressing on their demands. Meanwhile, the Punjab government appealed to the court to allow the farmers to place their demands directly in the court. On this, the court clarified that the doors of the court are always open for any suggestion or demand made by the farmers directly or through their representatives. Along with this, the Supreme Court also took cognizance of Dallewal’s health condition.
