Floods and rains wreaked havoc in Kenya, 13 people died and more than 15 thousand people were displaced, traffic came to a standstill due to flooding on roads and railway tracks.

Nairobi: The situation has gone out of control due to heavy rains and floods in various parts of Kenya. At least 13 people have died and around 15,000 people have been displaced due to this. Roads, streets and people’s homes have been flooded. Vehicles and people are trapped in floods at many places. Even relief is not reaching many people. Life has become disorganized. Meteorologists have predicted more rain till June.

The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, quoting the Kenya Red Cross Society, said on Thursday that about 20,000 people had been affected by the rains. This includes about 15,000 people displaced by heavy rains and flash floods across the country since mid-March. Thousands of people died due to floods in the last rainy season in this East African country.

Lost contact with many people
The Kenya Red Cross Society said five major roads were cut off from the rest of the country due to flooding, including Garissa Road in northern Kenya where a bus carrying 51 passengers was washed away on Tuesday. All the passengers were saved. Kenya’s disaster management agency has issued a flood warning to residents of Lamu, Tana River and Garissa counties, urging them to evacuate. According to the Meteorological Department, the rainy season is expected to reach its peak by the end of April and the rains will start reducing in June.
