In Uttar Pradesh, significant changes are imminent at both the BJP organizational and governmental levels. Following the appointment of the new state BJP president, Pankaj Chaudhary, all eyes are now on Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s cabinet expansion. A long core committee meeting was held at the CM’s residence on Tuesday, where the framework for the cabinet expansion was discussed in detail. After the meeting, State President Pankaj Chaudhary left for Delhi. It is believed that Bhupendra Chaudhary may return to the government in the Yogi cabinet expansion, and six new faces could also be inducted as ministers.
According to sources, the meeting, which lasted for more than an hour and a half, focused on cabinet expansion and organizational restructuring. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, State President Pankaj Chaudhary, General Secretary (Organization) Dharmpal Singh, both Deputy Chief Ministers Keshav Prasad Maurya and Brajesh Pathak, and RSS regional pracharak Anil Kumar, along with other office bearers, were present. An agreement was reached on the proposed structure of the expansion. This was the first meeting of the RSS, the organization, and the government after Pankaj Chaudhary became the new state BJP president. Introductions were also made during the meeting.
Discussion on Bhupendra Chaudhary’s inclusion as a minister intensifies
Reliable sources indicate that serious consideration was given to making former state president Bhupendra Singh Chaudhary and half a dozen other MLAs ministers. Special emphasis was placed on balancing caste equations keeping in mind the 2027 assembly elections. The framework for the organizational restructuring was also prepared based on this formula.
After the meeting, Pankank Chaudhary left for Delhi, where he will brief the high command on the core committee’s discussions and proposals. Sources say that the cabinet expansion could be implemented as soon as the green light is received from Delhi. It is believed that the expansion is likely to take place by January or February 2026, as auspicious dates will be available after the inauspicious period of Kharmas.
Six new faces may be included
The Yogi government currently has 54 ministers, while there is room for a maximum of 60. Therefore, six new faces could be included. In previous discussions, the return of Jat leader Bhupendra Chaudhary to the cabinet was considered almost certain, and other names are also being considered to maintain regional and caste balance. In political circles, this expansion is being considered significant in view of Mission 2027. The BJP is working on a strategy to counter the opposition’s PDA formula by striking a balance between the government and the party organization. In the coming days, after the final decision comes from Delhi, new developments can be expected in Uttar Pradesh politics.
