Pakistan Former PM Nawaz Sharif New Job: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has got a new government job in the government of his daughter Maryam Nawaz in Punjab province. Nawaz Sharif has been appointed the custodian-in-chief of the Lahore Authority for Heritage Revival (LAHR), where he will oversee the restoration of old buildings in Lahore.
Nawaz Sharif will now lead the process of restoration of many important buildings of the colonial period in Lahore. The government has classified more than 100 buildings as historical heritage sites. Nawaz Sharif has demanded a comprehensive plan to restore Lahore’s lost heritage. He said, “Old Lahore is incredibly beautiful and should be restored to its original form. It is a national duty to preserve our lost heritage.”
Imran Khan’s party taunts
Imran Khan’s party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has taunted this appointment. Senior PTI leader Shaukat Basra said, “Nawaz Sharif has now been given the responsibility of the old buildings of Lahore, this work is better for his retired life.” He said sarcastically, “Now Nawaz Sharif will be seen monitoring the old buildings of the walled city of Lahore.”
Nawaz Sharif’s return to politics
After returning from London in 2023, Nawaz Sharif was hoping to become the Prime Minister for the fourth time, but the military establishment chose his younger brother Shahbaz Sharif for the post of Prime Minister. This forced Nawaz to live a retired life politically.
Old splendor of Lahore
Under this new responsibility of Nawaz Sharif, he will oversee the heritage restoration work of the old city of Lahore. This initiative is considered important to maintain the old heritage and beauty of Lahore. In this plan of the government, attention is being paid to restoring the ancient buildings of Lahore to their original form.
