Former Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh and son Raninder Singh summoned by ED in FEMA violation case

Trouble has deepened for former Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh and his son Raninder Singh. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has summoned them for questioning in Jalandhar in connection with alleged violations of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA). The father and son are accused of being beneficiaries of certain foreign assets, including a Swiss bank account.

According to officials, BJP leader Amarinder Singh has been asked by the central investigating agency to appear at its office in Jalandhar on Thursday (February 12th). His son has been summoned the following day, Friday (February 12th). The ED will question both of them regarding the allegations.

Amarinder Singh is hospitalized.
However, Captain Amarinder Singh will not be able to appear on February 12th as he was recently admitted to a private hospital in Mohali. It is reported that Amarinder Singh is hospitalized for knee treatment. Consequently, the ED may give him a new date to appear and record his statement.

Raninder Singh Confirms Appearance
Amrinder Singh’s son, Raninder Singh, confirmed his appearance at the ED office in Jalandhar on Friday. He shared this information via social media. In his post, he said, “As law-abiding citizens, we will fully cooperate with all investigating agencies. We have full faith in the rule of law and are confident that truth and justice will prevail.”

What’s the Matter?
This move relates to a September 2025 order of the Punjab and Haryana High Court. The High Court had then dismissed petitions filed by Amarinder Singh and his son, requesting the ED to stop them from investigating the charge sheet filed against them by the Income Tax Department. Both are alleged to be beneficiaries of certain foreign assets, including a Swiss bank account.

Allegations Against the Singh Family
This case relates to credible information received by India from the French government in 2011, alleging that the Singh family is a beneficiary of foreign assets maintained and controlled through offshore business entities. In such a situation, due to these allegations, ED has called the father and son for questioning.
