Geneva: India has strongly reprimanded Pakistan at the meeting of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, Switzerland. India has shown a tough stand on Pakistan once again raising the issue of Kashmir. In the seventh meeting of the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, India’s representative Kshitij Tyagi said that India is exercising its right to respond to the baseless and malicious references made by Pakistan. It is sad to see that the so-called leaders and representatives of Pakistan are spreading lies about Kashmir. Pakistan is making a mockery of international rules. Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will always remain an integral and inseparable part of India.
Progress in Jammu and Kashmir
India’s representative Kshitij Tyagi said that the unprecedented political, social and economic progress in Jammu and Kashmir in the last few years speaks a lot in itself. These successes are a testimony to the people’s faith in the commitment of the government which is engaged in normalizing the situation in the region affected by Pakistan-sponsored terrorism for decades.
Pakistan should focus on its people
The Indian representative said that as a country (Pakistan) where human rights violations, persecution of minorities and degradation of democratic values are part of its policies and which openly shelters terrorists banned by the United Nations, it is in no position to preach to anyone. Its rhetoric ‘smacks’ of hypocrisy and incompetence in governance. Instead of focusing on India, Pakistan needs to focus on its people.
‘Pakistan needs to learn’
Kshitij Tyagi said that it is unfortunate that the time of this Council is being wasted by a failed nation which is itself struggling with instability. Whereas, India’s focus is on democracy, development and ensuring respect for its people. These are values from which Pakistan should learn something. Pakistan government’s representative at the United Nations, Azam Nazir Tarar, had said that human rights were being violated in Kashmir, which was a violation of the UN Charter and international law.
