Goa Police on Tuesday detained Ajay Gupta, one of the four owners of the ‘Birch by Romeo Lane’ nightclub, where a massive fire claimed the lives of 25 people. The state police had issued a lookout circular (LOC) against Ajay Gupta and another owner, Surinder Kumar Khosla.
A Goa Police spokesperson said, “We have detained Ajay Gupta, one of the owners of the nightclub. He is the sixth person arrested in this case.”
Blue Corner Notice issued against Luthra brothers
He said that earlier, an LOC had been issued against him as the police team could not find him at his Delhi residence. He added that Ajay Gupta was later found in Delhi and taken into custody. Two more owners of the nightclub – Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra – are absconding, and a Blue Corner Notice has been issued against them.

Owners accused of violating safety norms
The family of Subhash Chhetri, a resident of West Bengal who was among those killed in the Goa nightclub fire, on Tuesday held the club authorities responsible for his death and alleged that they violated basic safety norms. The massive fire broke out on Saturday night at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora, North Goa, killing 25 people. Chhetri had gone to Goa two years ago to work as a trainee chef and was in the kitchen when the incident occurred. Demand for strict action against those responsible
The Chhetri family demanded an impartial investigation and strict action against those responsible. Subhash’s sister, Urmila, said, “When I learned that my brother’s name was on the list of the deceased, I didn’t know how to break the news to my parents.” She told reporters at their residence in Bagdogra, near Siliguri, that Subhash was the sole breadwinner of the family. Subhash’s uncle, Dilip Chhetri, said, “There should be an impartial investigation into the incident. We believe that basic fire safety standards were not followed. We want strict action against the club officials.”
