Government announced Padma awards to 132 eminent personalities, Saseendran Muthuvel also elected to the Parliament of Papua New Guinea, who is Governor Saseendran Muthuvel?

The government on Thursday announced the award of Padma Awards to 132 eminent personalities. One name in this is that of Saseendran Muthuvel, the first person of Indian origin elected to the Parliament of Papua New Guinea. Earlier on Tuesday, the government had already announced that it will posthumously honor Karpoori Thakur, two-time Chief Minister of Bihar, with the country’s highest civilian award Bharat Ratna.

Presently Saseendran Muthuvel is the Governor of West New Britain Province. He is also the former Minister of State Owned Enterprises in Papua New Guinea. Let us tell you that the Governor in Papua New Guinea is equivalent to the post of Chief Minister in India. Whereas in Australia it is considered equivalent to the post of Premier.

Who is Governor Saseendran Muthuvel?
Governor Saseendran Muthuvel was born on 5 December 1974 in Sivakasi Ramanathapuram district (now Virudhunagar) of Tamil Nadu. His entire education was in Tamil medium. He has a college degree in horticulture from Tamil Nadu Agricultural University.

Saseendran first went to Papua New Guinea on 28 January 1999 for business. He started his career in retail in the year 2000. He got citizenship in 2007. He is the first person of Indian origin to be elected to the Parliament of Papua New Guinea in 2012.

Highest honor given to an Indian citizen
He was honored with initiation as Chief Swara of a prominent clan in Central Nakanai in the West New Britain province of Papua New Guinea. Saseendran also received the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman from Pranab Mukherjee in 2014. Which is the highest honor given by the President of India to an Indian citizen abroad.
