GST: GST department is active regarding sweets and various gift packs during festivals and has issued guidelines regarding GST.

GST News: In view of the upcoming festivals including Diwali, the State Tax Department has issued new instructions regarding packing of sweets and namkeen. Under this, GST will be charged at the rate of the highest GST among the different items included in the gift packing of sweets or other items given on festivals. In this regard, the department held a meeting with all the major sweet sellers of Agra zone and issued guidelines.

The festival season has started. Festivals like Karva Chauth, Diwali and Bhai Dooj are coming in the coming days. Sweets, dry fruits and other items are purchased on a large scale on these festivals, which people often give as gifts. During this time, there is a lot of demand for sweets and all packing items. When we meet a friend or relative on festivals, these gift packings are given to them as gifts.

Instructions regarding GST on gift packs
Many times many types of sweets or other items are included in a pack. Different GST is applicable on the items included in the gift pack. In such a situation, traders could have faced problems regarding GST, in view of which Agra GST department has given instructions that the gift packs packed on festivals contain different items. In such a situation, GST will be applicable on all items according to the item with the highest GST rate.

That is, the item in the pack of sweets and namkeen will have to pay tax according to the highest tax rate. Along with this, sweets and namkeen sellers have also requested that unnecessary harassment should not be done by the GST department on festivals. On which the GST department has assured that no trader will be harassed.

GST department held a meeting and gave instructions

The State Tax Department has given instructions to sweets and namkeen sellers on festivals. In the meeting of the GST department, instructions were given on the bill of sweet sales. The GST department said that if complaints are received on festivals that sweet sellers do not give bills, then it should be decided that 100 percent bill should be given for sweet sales. When a customer is buying sweets from the shop, the sweet seller has been instructed to prepare a complete bill and give it to the customer.

Sweets are sold in large quantities during the festival of Diwali, which is now being monitored by the GST department. Instructions have been issued regarding GST on gift packs of sweets, according to which the tax rate will have to be paid. This information has been given by Maruti Sharan Chobe, Additional Commissioner Grade 1, State Tax, Agra Zone.
