Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Gujarat BJP MLA Ketan Inamdar resigned from the state assembly on Tuesday. He said that there is nothing bigger than “self-respect”. Inamdar also said that his move was not a pressure tactic and he would work to ensure the victory of BJP candidate Ranjan Bhatt from Vadodara seat in the parliamentary elections. Imandar, who is representing Savli seat of Vadodara district in the Assembly for the third time, submitted his resignation letter to Assembly Speaker Shankar Chaudhary.
Had announced resignation from the post of MLA in 2020
In the letter, Ketan Inamdar said he was resigning based on his “conscience”. Even before this, he had announced his resignation from the post of MLA in January 2020, but then the Speaker of the Assembly did not accept it. After tendering his resignation on Tuesday, Inamdar told reporters that this was not a pressure tactic. The BJP leader said, “For a long time I was feeling that younger and older workers were not taken care of in the party. I have informed the leadership about this.”
Nothing is bigger than self-respect: Ketan Inamdar
Inamdar said he represented Savli seat for more than 11 years and has been associated with the party ever since he became an active member of the BJP. He said, “As I said in 2020, there is nothing bigger than self-respect. This voice is not of Ketan Inamdar alone, but of every worker of the party. I have said earlier also that old party workers should not be ignored.” The BJP leader said, “I will work day and night to ensure that our candidate Ranjan Bhatt wins the Lok Sabha elections from Vadodara seat with a huge margin. But this resignation is a result of my conscience.”
“Many BJP MLAs are feeling dejected”
After resigning in 2020, Inamdar had claimed that senior government officials and ministers were ignoring him and his constituency and many BJP MLAs were feeling “dejected” like him. Inamdar first won the 2012 assembly elections as an independent candidate. Later he joined BJP and again reached the Assembly in 2017 and 2022. Out of total 182 seats in Gujarat Assembly, BJP currently has 156 seats. Voting for all 26 Lok Sabha seats in Gujarat will be held in a single phase on May 7 and the results will be declared on June 4.
