Another official, also on the condition of anonymity, said he believes at least 600 people have died. No cause of death has been given in the list.

People fainted
The temperature in Mecca and sites around the city reached 47 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, according to the Saudi National Meteorological Center. Some people were seen fainting while trying to pelt stones at the devil. According to Saudi officials, about two thousand Haj pilgrims who fell ill due to heat are being treated. AFP journalists in Mina, outside Mecca, on Monday saw pilgrims pouring water bottles on their heads, while volunteers gave them cold drinks and ice cream to keep them cool. Saudi officials had advised pilgrims to use umbrellas, drink plenty of water and avoid going out in the sun during the hottest hours of the day.

The number of deaths of Hajj pilgrims is increasing

According to AFP news agency, 577 Hajj pilgrims have died due to extreme heat, but according to the new report of AFP on Thursday, this number has increased to 645. Last year, more than 200 deaths were recorded during Hajj. Most of the Hajj pilgrims who died are citizens of Egypt.

How many pilgrims died from which country

Among the more than 600 Hajj pilgrims who died during Hajj, the maximum 323 are from Egypt, 35 from Tunisia, 44 from Indonesia, 41 from Jordan, 68 from India and 11 from Iran. According to the news, the bodies of the Hajj pilgrims who died will not be sent back to the country, they will be buried in Saudi Arabia itself.
