Haryana: Due to heavy rains in many districts, large areas are submerged, two brothers died tragically due to collapse of the roof of the house in Shahabad, Kurukshetra

Many parts of Haryana once again witnessed torrential rains, due to which the water level of rivers has increased and normal life has been affected. Two people died and three people were seriously injured when the roof of a room collapsed due to heavy rains in Amar Vihar Colony of Shahabad in Kurukshetra in the early hours of Wednesday. According to Shahabad police station in-charge Sunil Kumar Dutt, six labourers from Kunda area of ​​Pratapgarh district in Uttar Pradesh were sleeping in the room at the time of the incident. Two brothers, 40-year-old Sandeep and 39-year-old Kuldeep, died on the spot in the accident, while the injured have been admitted to the hospital.

Many parts of the city submerged by the water of Markanda river

Many parts of the city have been submerged by the water of the overflowing Markanda river due to torrential rains, after which the Deputy Commissioner and SP of Kurukshetra visited Shahabad to inspect the relief work. Officials have started shifting people living in low-lying colonies affected by the rising water level to other places. Heavy rains in various areas of Haryana and flood-affected neighbouring state Punjab and rising water levels in rivers have inundated large areas, disrupting normal life.

Heavy rains cause waterlogging in Ambala

Continuous rains in Ambala for the last two days have led to widespread waterlogging in residential and commercial areas. Traffic was affected in the service lane due to accumulation of rainwater on the Ambala-Amritsar highway. Traffic was disrupted due to flooding of wholesale clothing market, Nadi Mohalla, Model Town, Court Road and Sector 7, 9 and 10, while residents faced difficulties.

All government and private schools closed

Floodwater entered many schools, due to which the administration has closed all government and private schools. Floodwater has also entered the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, SDM Office and Mod Town Police Chowki. In view of the weather, the Ambala district administration has activated emergency protocols. Deputy Commissioner Ajay Singh Tomar has ordered 24-hour monitoring of vulnerable areas and deployment of pumps to manage water drainage.

Leaves of government employees cancelled

Leaves of government employees engaged in various essential services have been cancelled and a community monitoring system ‘Thikri Pahara’ is being implemented in flood-prone villages. Meanwhile, rising water levels in the Tangri, Ghaggar and Markanda rivers have raised concerns. Although the water level of the rivers is below the danger mark, officials are still closely monitoring the situation. People living in low-lying areas are being advised to be ready to evacuate the area.
