Himachal Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania took a tough stand and said that no one other than MLAs is allowed to use the assembly premises. He also said that if any former MLA has addressed the media, then he has no right to do so.
Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania said in clear words on Wednesday that no one other than MLAs is allowed to use the assembly premises. If any former MLA has addressed the media, then he has no right to do so. His statement came after former Congress MLA Bamber Thakur was allowed by the security personnel to address the media persons in the assembly premises.
Allegations of attack on BJP leaders
Responding to the issue of former MLA Bamber Thakur being allowed to address the media persons in the premises and accusing the leaders of the main opposition party Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Assembly Speaker Pathania said that he will take a decision according to the rules of the House.
This matter was raised by BJP leader Randhir Sharma. Former MLA Bamber Thakur and his personal security officer were shot at by four shooters in Bilaspur on Holi when they were sitting in the courtyard of his wife’s official residence. Randhir Sharma alleged that Bamber Thakur has pointed fingers at a senior BJP leader and party MLA in connection with the attack on him.
Jai Ram Thakur also targeted
Intervening in the matter, state Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri also said that the Assembly Speaker should give his verdict on outsiders addressing media persons in the assembly premises. Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur also said that the former MLA cannot name those who allegedly attacked him, especially in the assembly premises when an investigation is going on.
Bamber Thakur spoke to the media in the assembly premises yesterday on Tuesday and accused BJP leaders of protecting the shooters, who according to him were also involved in the chitta business.
