Himachal Pradesh: Drug addiction is increasing rapidly, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla expressed concern and said that if action is not taken in time, Himachal can become “Udta Punjab”

Drug addiction cases are increasing rapidly every day across the country. Himachal Pradesh is troubled by drug addicts these days. This is because Himachal, famous for its natural beauty all over the world, is now seen getting trapped in the clutches of drug addiction. The Governor of the state Shiv Pratap Shukla has also warned about this. He said that if no action is taken immediately on this drug addiction, then Himachal will also become “Udta Punjab” in the next five years.

Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla warned on Thursday. He said that if no action is taken to root out the problem of drug addiction, then Himachal Pradesh will become “Udta Punjab” in the next five years. Along with this, he has also expressed his displeasure over the “lack of rehabilitation centers” in the state.

The Governor said that the NDPS cases were about 500 in 2012, which have increased to about 2200 today in 2023. There has been an increase of 340 percent in these. He said that work will have to be done against this drug addiction going on in the state. For this, all political parties will have to come together. Otherwise, the condition of Himachal will also deteriorate.

The state needs a modern rehabilitation center – Governor

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla said that the most modern rehabilitation center should be opened in the state for de-addiction. Along with this, de-addiction centers should be established at different places. He said that there is only one rehabilitation center run by the Red Cross in Kullu and we are hearing that land is being identified to establish a rehabilitation center in Sirmaur district, but nothing is happening at the ground level.

Now people are becoming aware against drug abuse
The governor said that the results of the campaign run by him against drug abuse are now coming to the fore. Due to the campaign, people are becoming aware. Those people or parents who were ignoring or hiding the matter of children’s drug addiction till yesterday. They are also coming out openly now. He said that panchayats have also been included in this campaign. People are now coming forward and giving information to the police about the smugglers.

The Governor said, “This is not just a campaign but a mission to protect our future generations and maintain the social fabric of our communities.” He further said, “Some universities are also taking an undertaking from the students that if any student is found indulging in drug abuse, strict action can be taken against him, which includes expulsion from the institute.” The Governor said that the youth of 15-30 years are consuming drugs the most.
