Several bridges were washed away in Shimla and Lahaul and Spiti districts after fresh incidents of cloudburst and flash floods in Himachal Pradesh, while more than 300 roads, including two national highways, had to be closed for traffic. Officials said a police post was washed away in fresh floods in Ganvi Valley, while a bus stand and nearby shops were damaged after heavy rains in Shimla district. He said two bridges were washed away in these incidents, cutting off Kut and Kyav panchayats of the district. However, no casualties have been reported so far, officials said. He said two more bridges were washed away due to flash floods caused by cloudburst in Karpat, Changut and Udgos Nala of Mayad Valley of tribal Lahaul and Spiti district.
People sent to safe places
Officials said that in view of the danger to Karpat village, people there have been sent to safe places. Local resident Ranjit Lahauli said that about ten bighas of agricultural land has been completely ruined and the district administration is carrying out relief work. Flooding was also reported in Kurpan Khad (Jaon) in Kullu district. The local administration has advised people to stay away from Kurpan Khad and areas around Bagipul-Nirmand. A total of 325 roads, including two national highways, have been closed for traffic in Himachal Pradesh due to rain.
Many roads closed
According to the State Emergency Operation Center (SEOC), the roads closed for vehicular movement on Wednesday morning include the Aut-Sainj road, which is part of National Highway-305, and the road from Khab to Gramphu (National Highway-505). It said that out of the closed roads, 179 roads are in Mandi district and 71 in the adjoining Kullu district. Officials said that due to a tree falling on the Circular (Cart Road) near Toland on Wednesday morning, school going children and office goers by bus faced inconvenience and had to walk to their destination.
Monsoon has caused a loss of Rs 2031 crore so far
Officials said on Wednesday that the state has suffered a loss of Rs 2031 crore so far since the onset of monsoon on June 20. They said that 126 people have lost their lives in various rain-related incidents while 36 are still missing. Officials said that so far 63 flash floods, 31 cloudbursts and 57 major landslides have occurred in Himachal Pradesh during this year’s monsoon.
