Now Himachal has entered the 55th year of its full statehood. 25 January 1971 was that historic day, when the then Prime Minister of the country, Indira Gandhi, announced to make Himachal Pradesh a full state. At that time the temperature on the Ridge ground was minus degrees and snow was falling from the sky. Indira Gandhi was also able to reach the Ridge ground from Annadale after many difficulties.

Himachal was formed on 15 April 1948

There were many organizations against giving full statehood to Himachal Pradesh. Despite this, Himachal Pradesh was given full statehood amid a long struggle. On 15 April 1948, Himachal came into existence as a Commissioner Province by combining 30 small and big hill princely states. Mahasu, Mandi, Chamba and Sirmaur were given the status of separate districts.

At that time, the area of ​​Himachal Pradesh was 10 thousand 451 square miles and the population was only 9 lakh 83 thousand 367. In the year 1950, Himachal Pradesh was given the status of a C state and a provision was made to form a Legislative Assembly here.

Himachal Pradesh became the 18th state of the country

When the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi announced to make Himachal Pradesh a full state from the historic Taka Bench of Shimla, everyone present there jumped with joy. Indira Gandhi herself danced with the local women there. Earlier, Indira Gandhi had reached the Ridge here doing a road show in an open jeep.

After this big announcement by Indira Gandhi, Himachal Pradesh came into existence as the 18th state of India. Since then, Himachal Pradesh has set many big examples. Despite many difficulties, Himachal Pradesh never stepped back and is continuously moving forward.
