Some Muslim religious leaders have raised a controversy over Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami drinking ‘energy drink’ during the match in Ramzan. Self-proclaimed Muslim religious leader and president of ‘All India Muslim Jamaat’ Maulana Shahabuddin Razvi has objected to Shami’s daughter playing Holi. He has termed Shami’s daughter doing so as ‘against Shariat’.
Shami’s daughter playing Holi is against Shariat
Razvi said in a video released late Saturday evening that Shami’s daughter Ayra playing Holi is against Shariat. He said that she is a small girl, if she plays Holi without understanding then it is okay, but if she is sensible and still plays Holi then it will be considered against Shariat.
Holi is a festival of Hindus
Razvi also said that he had advised Shami earlier also, but despite that the video of his daughter playing Holi has surfaced on social media. He said, ‘I have appealed to all the family members including Shami that whatever is not in Sharia, do not let your children do it. Holi is a very big festival of Hindus. But, Muslims should avoid playing Holi. Because, if someone plays Holi despite knowing the Sharia, then it is a sin.’
Maulana had also commented on drinking energy drinks
Rajvi had earlier targeted Shami for drinking energy drinks during the match against Australia in the Champions Trophy tournament on March 6. He was called a sinner for not fasting and a ‘criminal’ in the eyes of Sharia. He had said, ‘Playing cricket is not bad, but Mohammed Shami should fulfill his religious responsibilities. I advise Shami to follow the rules of Sharia and be responsible towards his religion.’
