A fire broke out in a residential building in Gulzar Houz area on Sunday morning, killing 17 people. According to a statement by Telangana Disaster Response and Fire Services Director General Y Nagi Reddy, preliminary investigations have revealed that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. “Preliminary investigations suggest that the cause of the fire was a short circuit. The cause of death of all 17 people was smoke inhalation,” ANI news agency quoted Reddy as saying.

Statement by fire brigade officer

“There was no lapse on the part of the fire department in dousing the fire and rescuing people… The building had a tunnel-like entrance of only two metres.
