A 10-year-old girl in Maharashtra’s Amravati city had a surgery to remove a clump of hair, about half a kilogram, from her stomach after she complained of digestive problems, doctors said. Dr. Usha Gajbhiye, a pediatric surgeon at a private hospital (where the surgery took place), said on Tuesday that the girl had told her that she had a habit of eating hair for a long time. She said that the girl was brought to the hospital 20 days ago and she had been complaining of vomiting, lack of appetite and weight loss for the last five-six months.
Pile of hair accumulated in the stomach like a ball
After medical examination and counseling, the girl told Dr. Gajbhiye that she eats hair. The doctor said that medical examination revealed that a pile of hair had accumulated in her stomach like a ball. He said, “We decided to operate on her and during the surgery done a few days ago, a clump of hair weighing about half a kilo was found in her stomach.” Dr. Gajbhiye said that the clump of hair was successfully removed and now the girl is able to eat properly and she has no other problem. He said that the girl will be discharged from the hospital soon.
