Smart meters are being installed in shops at the Lalbarra headquarters in Balaghat under the direction of Senior Engineer Sarfaraz Qureshi. Employees of the electricity distribution company had gone to Lalbarra to install the smart meters. This was opposed by Lalbarra Congress leader and worker Manish Kushwaha and others.

When officials insisted on installing the meter, Manish Kushwaha strongly objected and threw the smart meter to the ground in the market square and crushed it with a stick. The video is now going viral.
Police Registered a Case
The matter was reported by Senior Engineer Sarfaraz Qureshi of the Electricity Department. Following this, a case has been registered at the Lalbarra police station. The viral video is from a day ago and is now going viral.

There are concerns about payment, including that the installation of smart meters will result in higher electricity bills. Shopkeepers are opposing the installation of smart meters while keeping the old ones. However, this Congress worker’s method of protest is being considered inappropriate. The department has also stated in its complaint that the meter damage caused by the damage amounted to 9,000 rupees.
