In Maharashtra, with the BMC and other municipal corporation elections approaching, the Aam Aadmi Party has also announced that it will field candidates in the BMC elections.

The election dates for 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, including the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), have been announced. Political parties across the state are busy preparing for these elections. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also announced its intention to contest the BMC elections. The AAP has declared that it will contest all 227 wards in the upcoming BMC general elections in 2026, and has categorically ruled out any alliances.

Mumbai in a deplorable state – AAP
The Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that Mumbai is in a deplorable state and that all existing political parties have looted the BMC. The party stated that the BMC, with a budget of ₹74,447 crore, has become a hub of corruption and inefficiency. The BMC has completely failed on issues such as education, health, transport (BEST), waste management, environment, and pollution.

‘Like Delhi and Punjab, Mumbai too…’
Announcing its decision to contest the BMC elections, the Aam Aadmi Party claimed that it can provide better governance, transparency, and world-class facilities in Mumbai, just like in Delhi and Punjab. The party stated that the BMC desperately needs good and honest people, and that Mumbai needs the AAP.

When are the BMC elections?
The State Election Commission has announced that polling for the BMC and 28 other municipal corporations in Maharashtra will be held on January 15, 2026. The results will be declared on January 16. These elections will be held to elect a total of 2869 corporators in the municipal corporations, and voting will be conducted through EVMs. The model code of conduct has already come into effect for these elections, and campaigning will end one day before the polling date.
