India and Pakistan today held a ‘flag meeting’ on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir in an effort to reduce tensions after several recent incidents of cross-border firing and IED attacks. Know what happened

India and Pakistan held a ‘flag meeting’ on the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday in an effort to reduce tensions after several recent incidents of cross-border firing and IED attacks. In this meeting, both sides talked about maintaining peace on the border.

News agency PTI quoted sources as saying that the brigade commander level ‘flag meeting’ was held in the ‘Chakkan-da-Bagh crossing point’ area, in which both sides stressed the need to maintain peace on the border. He said that the 75-minute meeting started at around 11 am.

What issues were agreed upon in the meeting?

Sources said that the meeting took place in a cordial atmosphere and both sides agreed to respect the ceasefire agreement in the larger interest of peace on the border. Ceasefire violations on the borders of Jammu and Kashmir have reduced since India and Pakistan renewed the ceasefire agreement on February 25, 2021.

Recently, incidents of firing increased

According to news agency IANS, the armies of India and Pakistan had announced a ceasefire in 2021. After this ceasefire, the tension on the border reduced to a great extent. However, some worrying incidents took place in the past few days. Apart from the martyrdom of two Indian Army personnel in the Akhnoor sector of the Line of Control on February 11, two other soldiers were injured in firing by Pakistan across the Line of Control in Poonch and Rajouri districts. The Indian Army gave a befitting reply to the firing from across the border in the Poonch sector. According to reports, there have been some casualties on the Pakistan side as well.

Strict instructions given to security forces

The army and security forces are maintaining strict vigil along the LoC and in the hinterland as traditional routes of infiltration have remained open this winter due to less snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir. Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired two security review meetings on Jammu and Kashmir. During those meetings, he ordered the security forces to ensure zero infiltration and zero tolerance towards terrorists. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha also recently chaired two security meetings, one in Srinagar and the other in Jammu. The Lieutenant Governor asked the police and security forces to dismantle the terror network by targeting terrorists, their over-ground workers (OGWs) and supporters.
