Why do earthquakes occur?
Earthquakes are natural phenomena occurring on the surface of the Earth, which are mainly due to stress and activities in the internal structure of the Earth. The main cause of earthquakes in India is tectonic activities in the Himalayan region. There is tension here due to the collision between the Indian plate and the Eurasian plate. This is the reason why Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir and North-East India are sensitive to earthquakes.
