Cuban Ambassador Expresses Gratitude in a Tweet
The Cuban Ambassador to India tweeted, “Heartfelt thanks to the Ministry of External Affairs (@MEAIndia), the Air Force, the government, and the people. You provided medical supplies, equipment, and two BHISHM hospitals to help the people of the eastern provinces affected by Hurricane Melissa. This is brotherhood.” The Indian Embassy in Havana reported that a special Indian Air Force aircraft arrived in Cuba carrying 20 tons of relief supplies. This included the BHISHM Medical Trauma Unit, essential medicines, power generators, tents, bedding, kitchen kits, hygiene kits, solar lamps, and other essential items. The embassy wrote, “India stands with the people of Cuba in the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.”
Jamaican Foreign Minister’s Important Statement
Jamaican Foreign Minister Kamina Johnson-Smith wrote a lengthy message on X: “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam was not just India’s G-20 theme, but the true vision of South-South Cooperation. In this, humanity is paramount. My heartfelt thanks to my good friend, Foreign Minister @DrSJaishankar, for his monumental efforts to provide relief to those most affected by Hurricane Melissa. He sent solar lamps, generators, medical supplies, BHISHM modular trauma kits, remote control delivery systems for flood-affected areas, and special hygiene kits for women.”
“India stands with the people of Jamaica.”
Smith wrote in his message, “The Indian medical team will be with us for a few days and will provide training on new equipment. We already remember Vaccine Maitri, and this assistance will always be remembered.” Jaishankar responded, “Thank you for your warm words, Minister @kaminajsmith. India stands with the people of Jamaica in this difficult time, as it has before.” The Indian Embassy in Kingston reported that on November 6, an Indian Air Force C-17 aircraft arrived in Jamaica carrying 20 tons of relief supplies. This included a BHISHM medical trauma unit, generators, tents, bedding, kitchen kits, solar lamps, hygiene kits, and more. The Jamaican Foreign Ministry said, “This assistance will accelerate relief efforts.”
Hurricane Melissa wreaked devastating devastation.
Melissa was the most dangerous hurricane to hit the Caribbean region in 150 years. Severe flooding and landslides in Jamaica, Cuba, and Haiti caused numerous building collapses. Five million metric tons of debris accumulated in western Jamaica, equivalent to the weight of nearly half a million large trucks. Approximately 30 percent of Jamaica’s GDP was destroyed. Furthermore, more than 75 deaths have been reported in both Haiti and Jamaica. The United Nations says millions of people are still waiting for help. India’s immediate aid has won the hearts of the people of both countries.
