India has sent more than 15 tonnes of relief material to Myanmar after the devastation caused by the powerful earthquake. Sources said that India has sent relief material to Myanmar on board an Indian Air Force (IAF) C-130J aircraft from Hindon Air Force Station. According to sources, the relief package includes tents, sleeping bags, blankets, ready-to-eat food, water purifiers, hygiene kits, solar lamps, generator sets and essential medicines like paracetamol, antibiotics, syringes, gloves and bandages.

Several earthquakes, including a 7.2 magnitude earthquake, caused havoc and panic in Myanmar and neighboring Thailand. According to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), an earthquake of 4.2 magnitude on the Richter scale struck Myanmar at 11:56 pm (local time) on Friday. According to the NCS, the latest earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km, making it susceptible to aftershocks. The NCS said the quake was recorded at latitude 22.15 N and longitude 95.41 E.

Quake felt in many parts of Thailand

In a post on X, the National Center for Seismology wrote that multiple tremors were felt in Myanmar, including a major quake measuring 7.2 on the Richter Scale that struck at 11:50 am (local time). The powerful earthquake was felt in Bangkok and many parts of Thailand, with eyewitness reports and local media accounts noting that hundreds of people in Bangkok rushed out of shaking buildings.

Multiple tremors felt in Myanmar

Several posts on social media showed water gushing out of swimming pools due to the intensity of the quake. According to the NCS, the 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck at a depth of 10 km. A few minutes after the quake struck at around 11:50 am IST, a second tremor of 6.4 magnitude struck. The National Center for Seismology said the earthquake measuring 4.9 on the Richter scale hit Myanmar, the third after the first tremor measuring 7.2 on the Richter scale.

The earthquake caused massive destruction
The earthquake caused a 30-story skyscraper under construction in Chatuchak district to collapse due to the tremors. According to The Nation News, which cited Thailand’s National Institute for Emergency Medicine, 43 workers were trapped in the building under construction. Video obtained by CNN from Myanmar showed a road bridge over the Irrawaddy River, which passes through Mandalay, collapsing into the river in a cloud of dust and water.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed concern over the situation arising due to the massive earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand and said that in this hour India is ready to provide all possible help to both the countries. Two massive earthquakes struck South East Asia on Friday, causing buildings to shake in Thailand’s capital Bangkok and neighboring country Myanmar and people were evacuated to safer places. The Prime Minister said, I am concerned about the situation arising in the wake of the earthquake in Myanmar and Thailand. I pray for the safety and well-being of everyone. India is ready to provide all possible help.
