India Slams Pakistan in UN: India condemned Pakistan’s ‘grossly hypocritical’ behavior in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), saying that a country that does not make any distinction between terrorists and civilians has no right to talk about the safety of civilians.
India highlighted that the Pakistani army deliberately shelled Indian border villages earlier this month, killing civilians and deliberately targeting religious places. India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Parvataneni Harish said on Friday, “I am obliged to respond to the baseless allegations of the representative of Pakistan on many issues.”
Pakistan had raised the Kashmir issue
Before India, Pakistan’s Ambassador to the United Nations Asim Iftikhar Ahmed raised the Kashmir issue in his speech. Talked about the recent conflict between India and Pakistan. Reacting strongly, Harish said that India has faced Pakistan-sponsored terrorist attacks on its borders for decades.
India faced PAK sponsored attacks: Harish
He said, ‘India has faced Pakistan sponsored terrorist attacks on its borders for decades. This includes the horrific 26/11 attack on the city of Mumbai to the barbaric mass murder of innocent tourists in Pahalgam in April 2025.’
Harish said, ‘The victims of Pakistani terrorism have mainly been civilians as its aim has been to attack our prosperity, progress and morale. It is an insult to the international community for such a country to even participate in discussions on the safety of citizens.’
Pakistan used the shield of civilians: India
He said that Pakistan has repeatedly used the shield of civilians to promote terrorism. P. Harish said, ‘We recently saw senior government, police and military officials of Pakistan attending the funeral of terrorists targeted by Operation Sindoor. A country that does not make any distinction between terrorists and civilians has no right to speak about the safety of citizens.’
International community should come together against terror: India
Harish said, ‘We should be clear. The safety of civilians should not be used as an argument for the protection of UN-designated terrorists. The international community should come up with a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism and expel those who sponsor and defend it.’
Harish said that the Council and the international community should take necessary steps to ensure effective and timely protection of civilians, including their lives, dignity and rights.
Pahalgam attack took place on 22 April
Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after 26 people died in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on 22 April, India destroyed nine terrorist camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and Pakistan by carrying out precision strikes under ‘Operation Sindoor’ on the night of 6 May. Soon after this, Pakistan attempted to attack Indian military bases on 8, 9 and 10 May.
