MANADO: Indonesia’s Mount Ruang volcano erupted again on Tuesday for the second time in two weeks. Due to the volcanic explosion, dust spread in the sky for a distance of about two kilometers. The 725-metre (2,378 ft) high volcano in North Sulawesi province is located about 95 kilometers northeast of Sam Ratulangi International Airport in Manado, the province’s capital.
Airport closed
Ambap Suryoko, head of the regional airport authority, said the airport was closed on Tuesday morning to avoid any threat to aircraft engines due to low visibility and ash. Ash, pebbles and stones were seen falling from the sky in towns and cities across the region, including Manado. Not only this, drivers were forced to travel with headlights of their vehicles on even during the day. More than 430,000 people live in Manado.
