Taking aim at the BJP over the last-minute withdrawal of Congress candidate from Indore Lok Sabha seat, Akshay Kanti Bam, Congress state unit president Jitu Patwari on Monday said that the candidate was “kidnapped” just like that. Ravana had abducted Sita. Patwari told reporters, “Democracy has been dismantled in Indore. Democracy has been tortured.” He said, “The country has seen such a phenomenon in the last 10 years in the new India of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This did not happen before. Earlier there used to be more and more booth ‘capturing’ (looting of ballot boxes at polling stations) and there used to be fights at the booths. Now they (BJP) have abducted the entire candidate, just like Ravana had abducted Sita.
Congress will reveal about the upcoming strategy
Patwari said that Congress will reveal its upcoming strategy on Indore seat by Tuesday evening. Congress candidate Bam withdrew his nomination on Monday morning, giving a major blow to the party and joined the BJP. With this, perhaps for the first time in the parliamentary history of Indore seat, the electoral challenge of Congress has ended.
