Former Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi died in a helicopter accident. After which, voting for the post of President was held once again in the country on 28 June. After which the election results were declared on 29 June. However, no candidate could get enough votes to take over the chair of the President. But after the election results came out, the religious leaders of Iran got a big shock.
According to the results, the candidate of the reformist party Masood Pezeshkian got 10.4 million votes i.e. 42 percent votes, while the radical candidate Saeed Jalili, who played an important role in the nuclear deal, got only 9.4 million i.e. 38.6 percent votes. 50 percent votes are required to win in Iran. After which, on July 5, there will be a contest once again between the candidate of the reformist party Masood Pezeshkian and the radical candidate Saeed Jalili and voting will be done.
Radical leaders got a big setback
In these elections of Iran, radical leaders have got a big setback and after the results of the election, the attitude of the public has also come out clearly. Where the leader of the reformist party Masoud Pezeshkian got 42 percent of the votes. It became clear from this that the people of Iran are demanding change and not radical religious leaders.
Also, under the radical laws of Iran, Mahsa Amini died in police custody in 2022. Wearing hijab is mandatory in Iran, which Mahsa Amini did not wear properly and she was taken into custody, after which Amini died in police custody. After Amini’s death, protests were held against this incident across the country and people demanded change.
The influence of religious leaders started ending
After the protests in 2022, now people have put forward their opposition through vote. While some people of the country put forward their opinion by voting, on the other hand many people expressed their displeasure by not voting. According to the interior ministry of Iran, 60 percent of Iranians did not vote. On this, many analysts said that to a large extent the government ignored the demand for change of the people of Iran, due to which now people have put forward their protest against the fanatic religious leaders.
Power in the hands of religious supreme leader
Iran used to be a modern country earlier, but after the Islamic revolution in the country in the year 1979, the power of religious leaders was established in Iran. After which a religious supreme leader emerged in Iran on whose instructions the President of Iran works. Currently Ali Khomeini is the supreme leader of Iran. In Iran, power and authority remain in the hands of the religious supreme leader. But this time the results of the elections are telling that the people of Iran have also hit this religious power.
How was the impact of religious leaders
If we turn the pages of Iran’s history, it is clearly visible that religious leaders dominated Iran and they kept winning with huge votes. In the presidential election in 2005, radical leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won with 61.69 votes. After which in the next election also he gained power with 62 percent votes. In the year 2013, reformist leader Hassan Rouhani won with 50 percent votes. After which Ibrahim Raisi also entered the fray in 2017 but lost to Hassan Rouhani and Rouhani remained in power. In 2021, Ibrahim Raisi contested the presidential election for the second time. In which he won with 62 percent votes.
Demand for change rising
Due to the radical laws of Iran, the people of Iran are demanding change. Also, Iran’s economic crisis is also not hidden from anyone. Iran has been facing economic crisis for the last several years. Due to which the lives of the people of Iran have been affected due to rising inflation in the country. Also, due to Iran’s aggressive policies, America has imposed many sanctions on Iran. US sanctions imposed since 2018 have severely limited Iran’s oil exports and its revenues. Which has had a huge impact on Iran’s economy.
Although oil exports have increased significantly in the last two years, the revenue was only 85 million which is not enough to meet all the needs of the population.
Who is the new leader of Iran who shook the foundations of the Supreme Leader who has been ruling for decades?
While religious fundamentalist leaders have dominated Iran for a long time, now a leader has emerged who shook the foundations of the Supreme Leader. Presidential elections were held in Iran in the year 2021 in which Ibrahim Raisi won with 62 percent of the votes, but he died in a helicopter crash accident. Actually, religious fundamentalist leaders have dominated in Iran. Also, the Supreme Leader has the most power in Iran and he gives directions to the President. After which, now when Saeed Jalili, a candidate close to the Supreme Leader, got 38 percent votes, the Supreme Leader got a shock.
