IRCTC Corruption Case: RJD President Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi Yadav termed the allegations of CBI in the IRCTC scam case as baseless. The case was heard in Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday (March 25), where both sides debated over framing of charges in the court of Special CBI Judge Vishal Gogne. Lalu family’s lawyer argued that this case is politically motivated and CBI does not have any concrete evidence.
CBI claimed in the court that they have sufficient evidence which shows that Lalu Prasad Yadav had conspired for this scam while he was the Railway Minister between 2004-2014. The investigating agency put some important points in the court to prove its allegations:-
- Railway’s BNR Hotels located in Puri and Ranchi were first handed over to IRCTC.
- The tender process was manipulated to give the contract to Patna’s Sujata Hotels Private Limited.
- The conditions were changed and irregularities were committed to provide unfair benefits.
Lalu family presented its argument in court
Lalu Prasad Yadav’s lawyer told the court that this case is completely politically motivated and the CBI has no direct evidence against his clients. The lawyer stressed that there was no irregularity in the tender process and there is no evidence to prove that Lalu Yadav misused his position to benefit anyone.
Investigation officer ordered to appear in court
After hearing the arguments of both the parties, Special Judge Vishal Gogne has ordered the Investigating Officer (IO) to appear in court on Wednesday (March 26). The next hearing will be held on the same date where the CBI will have to present more concrete evidence in support of its allegations.
