Beirut: One of the densely populated southern suburbs of Lebanon’s capital Beirut was targeted by Israeli air strikes on Friday, after which sounds of explosions were heard in the capital. The attack came an hour after thousands of people attended the funeral of a top Hezbollah commander. The commander was killed a day earlier. According to Hezbollah’s Al-Manar television, four buildings in the Haret Hreik area of Dahiya have been reduced to rubble. The news said that the explosion was so powerful that it also shook buildings located about 30 kilometers north of Beirut.
Attack on Hezbollah’s central headquarters
The Israeli army said that it has attacked the central headquarters of Hezbollah in Beirut. Israeli army spokesman Daniel Hagar made this announcement on television. After the explosion in Beirut, a cloud of orange and black smoke covered the sky. This attack was carried out on a day when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed the United Nations. According to Israel’s three major TV channels, these attacks were carried out to target Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah. However, the army refused to comment on this.
2 people killed, 76 injured
The Lebanese Health Ministry has said that at least 2 people have been killed and 76 injured in large-scale Israeli attacks in Beirut suburbs.
Gaza-like destruction will happen in Lebanon
Let us tell you that, Israel is carrying out rapid attacks in Lebanon. About 700 people have been killed in Israeli attacks in Lebanon this week. This information has been given by the Lebanese Health Ministry. Israel has intensified attacks on Lebanon saying that it is targeting Hezbollah’s military capabilities and its senior commanders. Top Israeli officials have threatened that if the firing from Hezbollah continues, it will repeat Gaza-like destruction in Lebanon too.
Attacks will continue
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told world leaders at the United Nations on Friday that his country would continue to attack Hezbollah until it achieved its goals along the border with Lebanon. His statement has diminished hopes of an internationally backed ceasefire to prevent a regional war. Netanyahu said his government would no longer tolerate the daily rocket fire from that area (Lebanon). He said, “Israel has every right to eliminate this threat and send its citizens safely to their homes. And that is exactly what we are doing. We will continue to attack Hezbollah until all our objectives are achieved.”
