Israel Gaza War: At least 15 people, including women and children, were killed in Israeli air strikes overnight in Gaza. This was confirmed on Sunday after hospital officials and an Associated Press journalist counted the dead. This attack by Israeli soldiers is taking place at a time when Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is preparing for a US visit on Monday.
Netanyahu is also expected to meet President Joe Biden and address Congress on his US visit. During this, he will present his side on the nine-month-long war against Hamas and will also discuss a ceasefire. Water and everyday services have been affected for the 2.3 million population of the besieged Gaza region since the war.
Gaza in the grip of infection, WHO took cognizance
Along with this, the discovery of polio virus in the war-torn Gaza has worsened humanitarian conditions. Traces of the virus were found in sewage samples in Gaza. The World Health Organization has said that no one has been treated for symptoms caused by the infection. At the same time, the Israeli army said that the soldiers would be vaccinated and it would work with organizations to deliver vaccines to Palestinians.
The latest airstrike by Israel took place in the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza. Nine people, including two children, were killed in the attack and at least six people, including two girls, were killed in the southern city of Khan Younis. Men and women were crying while hugging small bodies wrapped in white shrouds. One body read ‘Unidentified body of a five-month-old child’.
38,900 people died in Gaza and 1,200 in Israel in the war
Smoke was also rising from the Nusserat refugee camp in central Gaza, but there was no immediate information about casualties. According to the region’s Health Ministry, more than 38,900 people have died in the war in Gaza. The war began on October 7 with an attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel, killing 1,200 people. Most of them were civilians and about 250 were taken hostage.
Amidst all this, the families of the hostages and thousands of Israelis are urging Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reach a ceasefire agreement. At the same time, as mediators for the ceasefire, Egypt, Qatar and America are encouraging Israel and Hamas to reach an agreement.
