ISRAEL HAMAS WAR: Israeli army carried out a powerful airstrike in central Gaza, 20 people reported dead, women and children also died

Gaza: The Israeli army has carried out a fierce airstrike in central Gaza. 20 people were killed in this attack, most of whom were women and children. Meanwhile, fighting broke out across the north on Sunday after differences emerged among Israeli leaders over the governance of Gaza (i.e. who should rule) after the war with Hamas ended. This war has currently entered its eighth month. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is facing criticism from his own cabinet.

Benny Gantz, a member of Israel’s three-member war cabinet, has threatened to leave the government if a new plan incorporating an international administration in Gaza after the war is not prepared by June 8. US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan is expected to meet Israeli leaders on Sunday to discuss an ambitious US plan to help the Palestinian Authority govern Gaza in exchange for Saudi Arabia recognising Israel and eventually gaining statehood. Netanyahu, an opponent of Palestine’s statehood, has rejected the proposals and said Israel would establish security control over Gaza and partner with the Western-backed Palestinian Authority and locals not affiliated with Hamas.

Hamas strengthened again

Even as talks of a post-war plan are in full swing, there is no end in sight to the ongoing war between Hamas and Gaza. In recent weeks, Hamas regrouped in parts of northern Gaza that were heavily bombed in the early days of the war. According to records from the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, 20 people, including eight women and four children, were killed in an airstrike on the Nuseirat refugee camp. Five other people were killed in airstrikes on Nuseirat, according to the Palestinian Red Crescent emergency service. An airstrike in Deir al-Balah killed Zahed al-Hauli, a senior Hamas-run police officer, and another man.
